Last updated: October 2026. All specs are for men's US size 10.
Weight is one of the easiest things to feel in a basketball shoe. A lighter shoe makes your first step feel quicker and your legs feel fresher late in the game. On RunRepeat's older test method, the average basketball shoe weighed 13.9 oz in a men's US 9, and some big-man shoes are over 16 oz in a size 10. The shoes below are all 12.5 oz or less in a men's US size 10.
Going light does have a cost. Light shoes usually have less cushioning, thinner rubber and less support, so they suit quick, smaller players best. We only included shoes that rate at least 4.1 out of 5 on our site, so none of these sacrifice too much.
All weights are for one men's US size 10 shoe. Some are converted from lab weights measured in size 9, and the r/BBallShoes database lists weights as a range, so treat small differences as a tie. Prices are launch retail.
Our rating: 4.1/5 (r/BBallShoes Shoe Database overall 82/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 11.7 oz · Launch price: $100
The lightest shoe on our list is also affordable at $100. Russell Westbrook's One Take 4 gets an 89 for traction in the r/BBallShoes database and 82 overall, and its roomy fit works for wide feet. The cushioning is basic, so it is best for players who value speed over comfort.
Our rating: 4.3/5 (RunRepeat lab score 87/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.0 oz · Launch price: $80
RunRepeat measured the Precision 7 at 11.6 oz in a size 9, calling it "amazingly lightweight," and scored it 87 overall. For $80 it is a light, quick and surprisingly well-cushioned shoe that can also handle some streetball.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (r/BBallShoes Shoe Database overall 89/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.1 oz · Launch price: $190
The NBA's most-worn shoe is also one of its lightest. The Kobe 6 Protro is low, snug and fast, and the r/BBallShoes database rates it 89 overall. Kobe Bryant's line has been known for low, light designs for years, and this one shows why players keep coming back to it.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (r/BBallShoes Shoe Database overall 90/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.1 oz · Launch price: $160
The Curry 4 FloTro takes Steph Curry's classic Curry 4 and adds Under Armour's rubberless Flow foam sole. The r/BBallShoes database gives it a 94 for traction, one of the best scores in that database, and 90 overall. It runs tight in length, so check the fit.
Our rating: 4.2/5 (RunRepeat lab score 85/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.2 oz · Launch price: $190
The G.T. Cut 3 uses Nike's ZoomX foam, which gives it more bounce than most light shoes. RunRepeat measured it at 11.8 oz in a size 9 and called it "exceptionally light and nimble." It doesn't give much ankle support on hard cuts, and it is indoor only.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (r/BBallShoes Shoe Database overall 91/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.2 oz · Launch price: $180
The Kobe 5 Protro is nearly as light as the 6 and rated even higher, 91 overall, in the r/BBallShoes database. It fits very snug and narrow.
Our rating: 4.2/5 (RunRepeat lab score 84/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.3 oz · Launch price: $120
RunRepeat called the Ja 2 "super lightweight" and loved its court feel and traction, giving it 91 for speed. It needs no break-in. The cushioning is thin, so it is not for players who want a soft ride.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (RunRepeat lab score 91/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.4 oz · Launch price: $130
RunRepeat scored the Sabrina 2 at 91 overall and 96 for speed, its highest sub-score, and noted it is "incredibly lightweight" with "no break-in period." It is a great choice for quick guards. It is not meant for bigger players or outdoor courts.
Our rating: 4.3/5 (RunRepeat lab score 87/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.4 oz · Launch price: $160
The Curry 11 combines light weight with a roomy, rounded toebox, which is rare. RunRepeat praised its grip and heel lockdown. Its soft outsole wears fast outside, so keep it in the gym.
Our rating: 4.3/5 (RunRepeat lab score 87/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.5 oz · Launch price: $95
The lightest cheap shoe with Air Zoom. RunRepeat says it "feels light and nimble on foot" and it costs $95.
Not always. If you are a bigger player or you land hard, a heavier shoe with more foam and a firmer heel can protect your joints better. RunRepeat's big-man favorites, like the LeBron 22 and G.T. Jump 2, weigh around 16 oz in size 10 for a reason. And many light shoes use thin rubber that wears out quickly outdoors.
A good rule: if you are a guard or a quick wing who mostly plays indoors, go light. If you play in the post, play outside a lot, or have sore knees, give up a little weight for more cushioning and support. See our best shoes for big men for those picks.
