Last updated: October 2026. All specs are for men's US size 10.
If you are tall, strong or just heavier than most players on the court, your shoes take a beating. Every rebound, post-up and box-out lands a lot of force on your feet, knees and back. A guard shoe that feels great on a 150-pound point guard can feel flat and wobbly on a 230-pound center.
So for this guide we looked for three things: lots of impact protection (cushioning that absorbs a hard landing), a wide and stable base, and an upper that keeps your foot on top of the footbed when you plant and push. We are less worried about weight here. Most of these shoes are heavier than average, and that is the trade-off for the extra support.
Weights are for one men's US size 10 shoe. Prices are launch retail.
Our rating: 4.4/5 (RunRepeat lab score 88/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 16.0 oz · Launch price: $190
LeBron James has played like a big for over 20 years, and his shoes are built for that. RunRepeat scored the LeBron 22 at 88 overall with a 96 for stability, called its traction "top-tier," and said it suits "a bigger player, a center, or a power forward." The midsole mixes Cushlon 2.0 foam with Zoom Air and Zoom Turbo units.
It is heavy at 16.0 oz and doesn't breathe well, so it can get warm. RunRepeat also notes it runs slightly small.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (RunRepeat lab score 91/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 15.3 oz · Launch price: $155
Kevin Durant's shoe isn't just for 7-footers who shoot like guards. RunRepeat measured above-average shock absorption in both the heel and forefoot and called it "a great option for long matches and practices, heavier players, and hoopers with joint concerns." It also has some of the best grip RunRepeat has tested and is fine for outdoor courts. It runs snug, so it is not a good fit for wide feet.
Our rating: 4.2/5 (RunRepeat lab score 83/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 16.0 oz · Launch price: $180
The G.T. Jump 2 is all about cushioning and bounce for players who jump a lot. RunRepeat gave it a 93 for cushioning and says it suits players who want "a ton of cushioning and shock absorption (for big guys)" and "explosive rebound for jumps (especially for centers and power forwards)." It has a mid-height collar and solid stability.
It is heavy at 16.0 oz, has almost no court feel, and its outsole is not meant for blacktop.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (RunRepeat lab score 90/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 13.5 oz · Launch price: $190
Victor Wembanyama is the biggest name wearing the G.T. Hustle 3. RunRepeat gave it a 98 for cushioning, calling the impact protection "unbelievable," and it has a roomy, rounded toebox that bigger feet will appreciate. It runs about half a size small, and at $190 it is expensive.
Our rating: 4.2/5 (RunRepeat lab score 84/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 14.5 oz · Launch price: $130
This is our favorite lower-priced pick for big men. RunRepeat says it is for players who want "crazy good impact protection and very soft cushioning" and specifically recommends it for "a center or more of a bigger/post-player." It is also roomier than average, and New Balance makes wider sizes. Don't expect much bounce or court feel.
Our rating: 4.3/5 (RunRepeat lab score 86/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 14.8 oz · Launch price: $145
Zion Williamson is known for his powerful frame, and his shoe is built with full-length Air Zoom. RunRepeat gave it a 94 for cushioning and praised its durable upper and outsole. It is a little more agile than most big-man shoes. It runs snug and about half a size small, so many players will want to size up.
Our rating: 4.3/5 (The Hoops Geek expert rating 8.7/10 (4 reviews)) · Weight (men's US 10): about 15.9 oz (estimate) · Launch price: $169.99
Klay Thompson's KT 9 is a mid-top with a very supportive build. The Hoops Geek's reviewers gave it a 9.1 for support and say it is "best for players seeking stability and impact protection." It fits narrow to regular feet best.
Our rating: 4.2/5 (The Hoops Geek expert rating 8.3/10 (7 reviews)) · Weight (men's US 10): not published · Launch price: $139.99
LaMelo Ball is a guard, but his MB.03 is a stable, well-cushioned mid-top that also works for bigger bodies. The Hoops Geek says it is "best for players who want a stable shoe with plenty of impact protection," with an 8.6 support score. Its midfoot can feel a bit narrow.
The LeBron 22 is the most complete shoe for post players. The KD 18 is a little lighter and works outdoors. If you want max cushioning and don't care about court feel, get the G.T. Jump 2. On a tighter budget, the Fresh Foam BB v2 at $130 gives you most of the comfort for less.
