Shopping for a hoop shoe in 2026 is harder than it should be. There are more signature lines than ever, Protro retros keep coming back, and every brand claims its foam is the bounciest. We sorted through the hundreds of models in our catalog to find the shoes that actually perform, using lab scores and review averages from RunRepeat, The Hoops Geek and the r/BBallShoes Shoe Database, plus what NBA players are wearing on court this season.
Every weight on this page is for one men's US size 10 shoe. Prices are the launch retail price, so expect to see them for more or less once a shoe has been out a while.
We only listed shoes that score well with independent reviewers. Each pick needed a strong rating (4.2 out of 5 or better on our site), and we favored shoes that are popular right now, either on NBA courts or at big US retailers. Then we tried to cover different styles of play, so there is something here for a quick guard, a bruising forward and someone who mostly plays at the park.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (RunRepeat lab score 91/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 15.3 oz · Launch price: $155
If you want one shoe that does almost everything well, start here. RunRepeat gave the KD 18 a 91 out of 100 and named it a top pick in both its best basketball shoes and best outdoor basketball shoes lists. In their lab, its forefoot traction measured 0.89, well above the 0.76 average of the basketball shoes they have tested, and the heel absorbed more shock than average too.
The setup is the same as the KD 17: a full-length Cushlon foam layer, an Air strobel under the heel and a large Air Zoom unit up front. That gives you a soft landing and a snappy push-off. It is also one of the most-worn shoes in the NBA right now, with 26 players on the BallerShoesDB most-worn list.
The catch: at 15.3 oz it is heavier than most, and it runs snug, so wide-footed players should look elsewhere.
Our rating: 4.6/5 (RunRepeat lab score 92/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.8 oz · Launch price: $135
The Sabrina 3 is the highest-rated shoe in our trending section and RunRepeat scored it 92 out of 100. It sits low to the floor, feels very stable side to side and locks your foot in place, which is exactly what you want for hard cuts and step-backs. It is also a Nike.com best seller this fall.
It is not a cushioning shoe, though. RunRepeat measured low shock absorption, and they don't recommend it for outdoor courts or wide feet. Think of it as a fast indoor shoe.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (r/BBallShoes Shoe Database overall 89/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.1 oz · Launch price: $190
No shoe is worn more in the NBA right now. BallerShoesDB counts 88 players wearing the Kobe 6 Protro, more than three times as many as the next shoe. The r/BBallShoes database gives it 89 out of 100, with especially high marks for guards and wings.
It is light at about 12.1 oz, low cut and fits snug. Two warnings: the outsole is not built for blacktop (it scores just 43 out of 100 for outdoor play in that database), and popular colorways sell out fast, so prices online can be well above the $190 retail.
Our rating: 4.5/5 (RunRepeat lab score 90/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 13.5 oz · Launch price: $190
If your knees or feet ache after games, the G.T. Hustle 3 is the softest landing on this list. RunRepeat gave it a 98 for cushioning and 90 overall. It also has a rounded toebox that measured roomier than average near the big toe. Victor Wembanyama is one of the NBA players wearing it this season.
The downsides are the $190 price, almost no feel for the floor, and a fit that runs about half a size small.
Our rating: 4.7/5 (RunRepeat lab score 93/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 13.3 oz · Launch price: $120
The D.O.N. Issue 6 is the highest-rated shoe in this guide at 4.7 out of 5. RunRepeat scored it 93 and praised its traction "even on dusty courts", plus strong lockdown and support, all for $120. It does need a short break-in period and it isn't the softest underfoot, but for the price it is hard to beat.
Our rating: 4.4/5 (RunRepeat lab score 88/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 16.0 oz · Launch price: $190
The LeBron 22 is built for heavier, stronger players. RunRepeat gave it a 96 for stability and called its traction top-tier, and it combines Cushlon 2.0 foam with Zoom Air and Zoom Turbo units. It is heavy at 16.0 oz and doesn't breathe well, but if you play in the paint, the support is worth it.
Our rating: 4.4/5 (RunRepeat lab score 88/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 13.6 oz · Launch price: $130
Worn in the NBA by Tyrese Haliburton among others, the All-Pro Nitro scored 88 with RunRepeat, which liked its grip on both clean and dusty courts and its stability. It is light and flexible, and RunRepeat says it is fine for occasional outdoor games. It does run narrow.
Our rating: 4.4/5 (RunRepeat lab score 88/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 13.3 oz · Launch price: $135
The Luka 4 keeps you low and stable, and RunRepeat says its outsole is extremely durable. At 13.3 oz it is lighter than the Luka 3 and fits a normal-width foot well. It is an indoor shoe, though, and some players don't like its slightly tilted footbed.
| Shoe | Our rating | Weight (US 10) | Launch price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nike KD 18 | 4.5 | 15.3 oz | $155 |
| Nike Sabrina 3 | 4.6 | 12.8 oz | $135 |
| Nike Kobe 6 Protro | 4.5 | 12.1 oz | $190 |
| Nike G.T. Hustle 3 | 4.5 | 13.5 oz | $190 |
| Adidas D.O.N. Issue 6 | 4.7 | 13.3 oz | $120 |
| Nike LeBron 22 | 4.4 | 16.0 oz | $190 |
| Puma All-Pro Nitro | 4.4 | 13.6 oz | $130 |
| Jordan Luka 4 | 4.4 | 13.3 oz | $135 |
If you just want the safest choice, get the KD 18. If you are a small, fast guard who plays indoors, the Sabrina 3 or Kobe 6 Protro will feel faster. If money is tight, the D.O.N. Issue 6 gives you most of the performance for less. And if you are not sure what you need, read our guide on how to choose basketball shoes.
