Best Outdoor Basketball Shoes

Last updated: October 2026. All specs are for men's US size 10.

Outdoor courts eat basketball shoes. Asphalt and concrete are rough, so the soft, sticky rubber that grips a clean gym floor can wear smooth in a few weeks outside. Then you lose your traction and your shoes are done, even if the rest of the shoe looks new.

A good outdoor shoe needs a harder, thicker rubber outsole with deep grooves, an upper that won't tear when you drag your toe, and enough cushioning to soften landings on hard ground. To pick these shoes we leaned on the outdoor scores from RunRepeat's lab reviews, plus reviewer notes from The Hoops Geek.

Weights are for one men's US size 10 shoe. Prices are launch retail.

1. Nike KD 18 (best overall)

Our rating: 4.5/5 (RunRepeat lab score 91/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 15.3 oz · Launch price: $155

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

Most shoes are good indoors or outdoors, not both. The KD 18 is the rare exception. RunRepeat gave it an outdoor score of 83, named it a top pick in its best outdoor basketball shoes list, and wrote that it has "an extra grippy outsole for both hardwood and blacktop." It also breathes well, which matters on hot summer courts. It is heavy and narrow, though.

2. Nike Cosmic Unity 3 (most durable)

Our rating: 4.1/5 (RunRepeat lab score 82/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 16.1 oz · Launch price: $170

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

If you only play outside, the Cosmic Unity 3 is the toughest shoe we list. It earned the highest outdoor score of any shoe in this guide, 95, and RunRepeat called it "outstandingly durable" and "perfect for outdoor courts." It has a wide, stable platform and uses recycled materials.

The trade-offs: it is heavy at 16.1 oz, its traction is only average, and it needs a break-in.

3. Reebok Question Mid (the classic)

Our rating: 4.0/5 (RunRepeat lab score 81/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 17.3 oz · Launch price: $170

Allen Iverson's original shoe is still a tank. RunRepeat scored it 84 for outdoor use, called it "outdoor court approved" and praised its "highly durable build" and grip on both indoor and outdoor courts. It is the heaviest shoe in this guide at 17.3 oz, and its toebox is tight and low.

4. Nike LeBron Witness 7 (best for asphalt on a budget)

Our rating: 4.1/5 (RunRepeat lab score 82/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 14.1 oz · Launch price: $105

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

The Witness 7 is LeBron's lower-priced line. RunRepeat gave it an 85 outdoor score and says it suits players who "love to take their games outdoors, especially on asphalt courts." It also has strong impact protection. Its upper is not very durable, so watch for wear around the toe.

5. Adidas Dame Certified (best under $100)

Our rating: 4.1/5 (RunRepeat 81/100 and r/BBallShoes 82/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 14.7 oz · Launch price: $95

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

For $95 you get an outdoor score of 87 from RunRepeat and a roomy toe area. It isn't the bounciest shoe, but it is a solid, durable everyday hooper for the park.

6. Nike Air Max Impact 4

Our rating: 4.2/5 (RunRepeat 83/100 and r/BBallShoes 85/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 12.5 oz · Launch price: $90

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

At $90, the Air Max Impact 4 is another strong outdoor pick. RunRepeat gave it an 86 for outdoor play and recommends it for "beginner players," "thriftier buyers," and "people who usually take their games outdoors." It is light at 12.5 oz and needs a short break-in. It runs narrow.

7. New Balance TWO WXY v4

Our rating: 3.9/5 (RunRepeat lab score 77/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 13.5 oz · Launch price: $120

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

The TWO WXY v4 scored 86 for outdoor use with RunRepeat, one of the higher outdoor marks we found. If you can find it, it is a good-value outdoor shoe. Its newer version, the v5, scores 80 outdoors and is the better shoe overall.

8. Nike LeBron 22

Our rating: 4.4/5 (RunRepeat lab score 88/100) · Weight (men's US 10): 16.0 oz · Launch price: $190

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

Big players who hoop outside should look at the LeBron 22. RunRepeat gave it an 82 outdoor score and says it is "made to last." It is heavy and warm, but it is also one of the most supportive shoes made.

Budget pick: Nike Renew Elevate 3

Our rating: 3.7/5 (The Hoops Geek expert rating 7.4/10 (4 reviews)) · Weight (men's US 10): not published · Launch price: $79.99

Buy Now on Amazon · See specs and colorways

The Hoops Geek says the Renew Elevate 3 is "perfect for players that need a reliable outdoor shoe." At about $80, it is easy to keep as a second pair for the park. Reviewers note that it starts a bit narrow but stretches.

What to avoid outside

Some of the most popular shoes right now are poor outdoor choices. RunRepeat says the Sabrina 3, Jordan Luka 4, G.T. Cut 3, G.T. Jump 2 and Air Jordan 40 are "not for outdoor courts," and it gave the Under Armour Curry 11 an outdoor score of just 19 because of its "very weak outsole." Soft, thin rubber wears fast on concrete.

How to make outdoor shoes last longer

  • Keep a separate outdoor pair. Use your best indoor shoes only indoors.
  • Check the outsole before you buy. Thicker rubber and deeper grooves last longer.
  • Clean the soles. Dust and grit reduce grip. Wipe them with a damp cloth.
  • Replace them when the pattern is gone. Smooth rubber means less grip and a higher chance of slipping.

Which one should you buy?

Get the KD 18 if you split time between the gym and the park. If you play outside almost every day, the Cosmic Unity 3 will last the longest. Under $100, pick the Dame Certified or Air Max Impact 4.
